Unity Wheelcollider stops working after reaching 0 velocity

Good day everybody, I am currently working on a 3d racing game utilizing the wheel colliders to move my vehicles. But I seem to have hit a wall where the wheels wont work after I stopped my vehicle. When I start the game everything works fine, but once I start driving and stop again there is no force applied to the rigidbody. The code still applies the motor torque to the wheels and there are no error messages anywhere, the rigidbody just seems frozen. I just cant figure out what the cause could be and I hope that one of you skilled people out there have already overcome a similar issue.
